Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have confirmed that local alignments of liquid crystal (LC) materials can be induced by aligned cellulose filaments. In order to realize LC devices using the filaments, the local LC alignment needs to be expanded more. In this study,we fabricated LC cells containing an aligned cellulose filament sandwiched by substrates with thin polymer layers to investigate the influence of substrate surfaces on the LC alignment obtained by the filament. Polyimide (PI), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polystyrene (PS) were used as the polymer layers. The LC alignment area due to the filament was expanded in order of PS>PVA>PI. The molecular interaction between the LC and the polymer layer may be decreased in order of PS
