Abstract(in English) 21GHz-band satellite broadcasting is expected for one of advanced satellite broadcasting system capable of ultrahigh-definition TV and multi-channel HDTV broadcasting. To overcome large signal attenuation caused by rainfall in the 21GHz-band, we are now moving forward on on-board large phased array antennas that will increase the radiation power only for heavy rainfall areas to compensate for large rain attenuation. In this report, an onboard array-fed reflector antenna was applied to the 21GHz-band broadcasting satellite. In order to estimate the total power consumption of feed array, the gain characteristics and power efficiency were calculated when the configuration parameters such as an aperture diameter of reflector antenna and the number of radiating elements in a feed array were altered. Furthermore, two types of beam forming methods were applied. As a result, it was shown that the power efficiency was high when only phase of excitation signals at beam forming network was adjusted to shape the radiation pattern and the gain at the service area were decreased as the diameter of the boosted beam became large.
