Abstract(in English) | This paper proposes bi-directional ranking and selection of surviving symbol replicas in maximum likelihood detection with QR decomposition and M-algorithm (QRM-MLD) for Variable Spreading Factor (VSF)-Spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multiplexing. In the proposed algorithm, the calculations of the surviving symbol replicas are first performed in the forward QRM-MLD, and then, the calculations of the surviving symbol replicas are performed in the reverse QRM-MLD employing the reliability information of the surviving symbol replicas derived in the forward QRM-MLD. Computer simulation results show that the required average received signal energy per bit-to-noise power spectrum density ratio (Eb/No) per receiver antenna branch at the average packet error rate of 10^<-2> in the proposed method is reduced by approximately 0.7, 1.0, and 0.5 dB compared to that in the original QRM-MLD associated with 16QAM modulation and Turbo coding with the coding rate of 1/2, 3/4, and 8/9 assuming the identical computational complexity in 4-by-4 MIMO multiplexing with a 100-MHz bandwidth (twelve-path Rayleigh fading channel, root mean squared delay spread of 0.26 μsec, maximum Doppler frequency of 20 Hz, and fading correlation between two contiguous antenna branches of 0.6 for the transmitter and receiver antenna branches). |
