Temperature Measurement of Breaking Arcs between Cu-Cu, Ni-Ni and Pd-Pd contact pairs

Abstract(in English) To examine the influence of the circuit current on the arc duration and the arc temperature, their breaking arcs between separating Cu, Ni and Pd contacts were generated in the circuit of 42V-7A, 8A and 10A and the arc voltage, the arc current and the spectral intensity were measured. Each contact was operated 30 times each three kinds of currents. From the arc voltage, the arc duration is measured. As local thermal equilibrium was confirmed with Boltzmann plot, the arc temperature was estimated from the spectral intensity. When the breaking current increases, Cu and Ni arc durations increased, and Pd arc duration was constant. On the other hand, Cu arc temperature was not influenced by an increase of the breaking current. As for the Ni arc temperature, the Ni arc temperature in the case of 7A was a little higher than that of the other two currents. As for the Pd arc temperature, when the breaking current was 10A, it was a little low compared with the arc temperature in case of the current of 7A and 8A.
