Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Text information added to audiovisual information is considered useful for building vocabulary and making comprehension, and it has been used in various multimedia learning materials such as audiovisual aids for language lessons. The addition of text information may be useful not only for learning materials but also for interactive communications such as a teleconference. However, many researches on effects of text information attached to audiovisual media have not seen the consensus, and have given us various results. That is because there are possibilities that too many amounts of text information may interfere listening comprehension and that factors of subjects and presentation materials may dominate the understanding. In this paper, we have conducted an experiment of measuring effects on keyword captions attached to video of readings in Japanese and English in order to investigate on listening comprehension for keyword captions in the video. In the Japanese reading, scores of answering questions about the reading content were higher with keyword captions than without keyword captions. The English reading had high scores at the order of the English and Japanese captions, English only captions, and no caption.
