Abstract(in English) | Recently, the CISPR (International Special Committee on Radio Interference) has been discussing the method of EMI antenna calibration for determining free-space value of the antenna factor. Usually, the antenna calibration is conducted at an open area test site where the characteristics of an antenna under calibration (AUC) are strongly affected by EM wave reflection at the ground plane. Hence, several methods have been investigated for reducing the effects of ground reflection. However, it is difficult for these methods to determine free space value of the antenna factor in the VHF band. Hence, the present paper theoretically investigates an antenna calibration technique for the Standard Antenna Method where transmit and receive antennas are oriented for vertical polarization. Such calibration method was already employed at some standard institutes, but it has not been analyzed in detail, especially with respect to the antenna arrangements. For this purpose, the method of moments is applied to investigate errors introduced in calibration of a biconical antenna for various antenna arrangements from 30MHz to 250MHz. As a result, appropriate antenna arrangements are found for the calibration that can provide the free-space antenna factor with an error less than 0.1dB. Furthermore, error analyses are made to find a necessary signal to noise ratio, considering the unwanted effects of cable reflection and the insertion loss between the transmit and receive antennas. |
