Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A system with a video camera, a PC and a DSP is developed, which extracts sports players from the captured video image and detects the coordinates of the players' position real-time, for sports training aid and game analysis. In this system, a background picture is extracted and adaptively renewed from the present frame and the one before the previous frame. Players are then extracted by subtracting the background image from the present input image. In this way players can be traced even if the weather changes, because the weather changes are slower than the player movement. It is also possible to trace players even if they stay still for a long time. System performance is evaluated using real sports training scenes.
