Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, the Internet is used not only for conventional applications such as Web and E-mail, but also for new applications such as network meeting and contents delivery. IP multicast is studied for such demands from various points of view. However, IP multicast is not popular now. It is pointed out that there is no incentive to use IP multicast for receivers. In the present IP multicast, unicast packets and multicast packets are treated equally in routers. However, multicast packets should be more weighted than unicast packets, because multicast packets are sent to many receivers. The aim of this study is to improve the characteristics of packet loss and delay in a whole network by performing the control according to the number of receivers of a packet, and to increase the incentive to use IP multicast for receivers. For this control, it is necessary that each router knows the number of receivers of a packet and allocates the bandwidth according to the number of receivers. This paper proposes IP multicast protocol that the router can know the number of receivers, and the bandwidth allocation method using the number of receivers. The simulation results show the good performance of this method.
