Abstract(in English) | In the best effort network, such as the Internet, asymmetrical network speed, packet loss, and delay awfully affect quality of service through application. Network speed has to be guaranteed in video conference using non-scalable video CODECs. When video conference is held through the asymmetrical network, bit-rate of each video encoder has to be adopted to narrowest network speed. In this paper, we propose scalable video conference system using MPEG-4 ASP/FGS software CODECs. The proposed system is based on End-to-end structure, then it works by client-oriented operation. Using the scalability of video bitstream, each client is able to control not only up-stream bitrate but also down-stream bitrate. User can control QoS of each client in the same down-stream bitrate. We also propose client-oriented ROI (Region Of Interest) scalability. It is very different from existing ROI concept, such as Max Shift function in JPEG2000 and Selective Enhancement function in MPEG-4 FGS, which is encoder issue. The proposed system is based on End-to-End (server-client) system, not network issue. |
