Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Decoding methods to detect and correct packet loss have being studied to enhance the reliability in multicast communications. The FEC systems which correct error packets adding redundant packets are utilized to improve the reliability, especially for satellite communications in which packet retransmission is not adequate. Tornado codes are a kind of error correcting codes which perform coding and decoding on a packet level. Tornado codes have the feature that coding and decoding time is short because of the small number of operations. They are effective to the packet loss caused by buffer overflow and congestion control. On the other hand, even if a part of a packet is corrupted by bit errors, it is regarded as packet loss because Tornado code calculation is performed on a packet level. This paper proposes a decoding method which makes Tornado-type codes effective to bit errors by exploiting error packets and also shows how the proposed decoding method is effective to the communication environment in which bit errors are dominant by computer simulation.
