Investigation for Crystal Structure of Ferroelectric Oligomer Thin Film by X-ray Pole Figure Method

Abstract(in English) Exact discussion regarding the Form I (ferroelectric β phase) unit cell structure of vinylidene fluoride [VDF] oligomer has remained obscure in comparison with poly vinylidene fluoride [PVDF] or its copolymer [P(VDF/TrFE)]. To resolve it, form I thin films were prepared by controlling of substrate temperature during vacuum evaporation, and the unit cell structure was precisely investigated by in-plane and out-of-plane X-ray diffraction measurements. In the film with molecular direction normal to substrate, the c-axis corresponding to single molecular length due to the finite oligomer chain was determined for the first time. Moreover, it was found that the c-axis oriented perfectly normal to the substrate by X-ray pole figure measurement for 002 reflection. On the other hand, separable hk0 reflection peaks were observed by in-plane diffraction, which enabled to calculate the lattice parameters of a- and b- axis. As a result, the unit cell parameters of VDF oligomer form I structure was determined; orthorhombic, a=0.864nm, b=0.488nm and c=3.137nm.
