Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have studied molecular structure and packing of various silicon-based polymers with symmetric and asymmetric side-chains, such as, poly(di-methyl silane), poly(di-ethyl silane), poly(di-n-propyl silane), poly(di-n-butyl silane), poly(di-n-pentyl silane), poly(di-n-hexyl silane), poly(methyl ethyl silane), and poly(methyl n-propyl silane). As a result, it is found that the two side-chains bonded to a silicon atom stretch asymmetrically due to the intra-molecular steric hindrance even organopolysilanes with symmetric side-chains. These side-chains are bonded to the adjacent side-chains bonded to the second nearest-neighbor silicon atoms by van der Waals force. In this paper, molecular structure and packing of various organopolysilanes with asymmetric side-chains are examined by X-ray diffraction method. Difference and similarity between organopolysilanes with symmetric and asymmetric side-chains are discussed on the bases of the obtained structures.
