Code desing method and decoding method for burst error locating codes

Abstract(in English) Error control codes are widely applied to computer systems and communication systems in order to improve system reliabilities. Error locating code, a class of error control codes, can indicate the location of the error and is useful to reduce the cost of retransmission and fault diagnosis. For communication systems, single-bit error correcting and burst error locating codes, or SEC-B1EL codes, has been proposed. However, the code length of the existing code is not long. This paper proposes effective SEC-B1EL code having longer code length. This also proposes both parallel and serial decoding circuits of the code in order to apply this code to both computer and communication systems. Code evaluations say that the code length of the proposed code is about l .l times as large as that of the existing code and that hardware amount of the proposed code is about l/2 as large as that of burst error correcting code.
