Convergence of Sound Waves Radiated from the Aerial Ultrasonic Source using a Square Transverse Vibrating Plate with Several Reflective Boards

Abstract(in English) A square plate actuated by an ultrasonic source emits extremely intense ultrasonic waves into the air from its flat surface. The plate also exhibits transverse vibration when vibrated longitudinally. The nodal positions of the plate take the form of straight lines, creating a lattice-like pattern. The source thus radiates four directional sound waves in the far field. Studies on converging sound waves into a plane have been carried out but have so far failed to obtain effective convergence. We propose the configuration of a convergence using a source plus several reflective boards placed near it. The aim is to focus high sound pressure at one point. We investigated various setups designed to focus sound waves. We installed two square reflective flat boards in parallel to the vibrating plate on either side of it, then added a third reflective board for changing the direction of sound waves, and employed a curved reflective board to focus the sound waves. Sound pressure and phase were measured in each case.
