Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) YAZAKI, whose corporate policies are "a corporation in step with the world" and "a corporation needed by society", has been providing automotive components, electrical wires, and other products such as gas appliances and air-conditioning equipment. Under these company spirits, YAZAKI has also been working on the development of welfare information devices. A braille keyboard for visually-impaired people is one of our current development items. This keyboard has 37 keys. 6 out of 37 keys are braille keys, corresponding to each raised dot producing braille. This allows users to enter characters by mainly using these keys. One of the great advantages of this keyboard allocation is that users can use their personal computers just like they are using a Brailler. This keyboard complies with the standard USB specification. Therefore, users can use off-the-shelf Screen Reader and braille editing software.
