Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We developed a Japanese-language beta version of the screen reader (BRLTTY Plus) for Linux, the first of its kind in Japan. We expanded the functions available to the BRLTTY screen reader, and added functions such as Japanese voice synthesis and a Japanese Braille output. The original BRLTTY did not operate unless a Braille display was connected and, further, the voice-reading function was weak. However, having considered the fact that in Japan, most users use only the voice synthesis, the basic configuration was changed to operation using voice synthesis and keyboard input only, without connecting a Braille display, and this was combined with enhancements in the voice reading function. Further, we also supplied detailed read function using voice during Japanese kana and Kanji conversion inputs, hence enabling Kanji homonyms to be inputted.
