Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Delay variation is an important performance parameter in IP (Internet Protocol) networks. Delay variation can be estimated through either active measurement or passive measurement. Passive measurement is advantageous because it accurately estimates the performace without disturbing the network. However, passive measurement has difficulty of large storage cost. To remove this difficulty, the hash-based approach has been pro posed. On the basis of the hash-based approach, this paper proposes a simple variable-length timestamp coding technique to obtain further decreased storage space. In addtion, the paper describes a method that eliminates measurement errors brought by the collisions among hash function outputs. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed through an experiment.
