Abstract(in English) | This paper proposes a demand-based cut-through optical path control scheme. This scheme is effective for terabit-class super-network to offer bandwidth-assured IP communication services by means of optical path assignment according to customer demands. The service objectives of our scheme are to assure bandwidth of IP communication between customer edge routers and to maintain IP reachability for all destinations. The conventional solutions are the priority control scheme combined with the reservation control scheme and the optical path cross-connect scheme combined with the hop-by-hop IP forwarding scheme, both schemes are applied between customer edge routers. The former increases provider routers' cost because provider routers should be connected via broadband links and packets should be separated into per-class or per-flow queues for priority control in each router. On the other hand, the latter increases customer edge routers' cost because customer edge routers should terminate per-class or per-flow interfaces for the packet forwarding. To solve those problems, in our proposal, the former scheme is applied between provider edge routers rather than customer edge routers. In our scheme, provider routers should simply cross-connect optical paths and customer edge routers should terminate a single access-interface. As the result, our proposed scheme can reduce cost of the whole network more efficiently than other schemes. |
