TCP Congestion Control with ACK-Pacing Mechanism in Wireless Overlay Networks

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we discuss TCP congestion control in Wireless Overlay Networks where various access links such as a wireless LAN and a cellular network are integrated. In the Wireless Overlay Network, vertical handover, which is a handover technique between different types of access links, is one of the most important technologies. The vertical handover significantly degrades throughput performance of TCP because it causes drastic change in a bandwidth delay product of each TCP flow. The authors have already proposed an ACK-pacing mechanism for TCP congestion control and evaluated a basic performance with a single node. In this paper, we discuss technical requirement for the proposed system in a more practical environment where there are multiple nodes sharing a wireless link. In this environment, it is necessary to design the ACK-pacing mechanism with taking account of fairness and reduce a waste of network resource due to ACK overhead. Furthermore, we evaluate the performance of the proposed system in the multiple node environment with a simulation.
