Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) DPSK direct detection (DPSK-DD) scheme is suitable for high speed optical transmission because of its high tolerance against chromatic dispersion. This paper analyzes the transmission characteristics of 40 Gbit/s/ch WDM systems using DPSK-DD by the aid of numerical simulation and transmission experiments. Numerical simulation examines the filter dependences of dispersion tolerance and receiver sensitivities, and shows that DPSK-DD better tolerates the fiber nonlinearity than conventional modulation format like NRZ. The results of L-band WDM transmission experiments over 500 km of DSF are reported, and we describe the experimental results of dispersion tolerance and fiber nonlinearity, and 30-channel transmission experiment without using channel-by-channel dispersion compensation.
