Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) So far, we have reported a transillumination laser CT using coherent detection imaging (CDI) method based on optical fiber applicable to early diagnosis of bone diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or osteoporosis. However, the long measurement time has prevented the technique from clinical practice, because of patience imposed on a subject and/or image quality degradation by motion artifacts. To conquer the difficulty, we introduce a pair of multi-channel optical fiber arrays, in which active fibers are selected using optical switches, to maximally reduce the mechanical scanning. Also, we eliminate unnecessary beam scanning by adaptively and efficiently controlling the scanning according to the subject size. In addition, we introduce a high speed analog-to-digital converter (sampling frequency : 100 MHz) to largely reduce the data acquisition time. These improvements reduce the measurement time required to image a cross-section of human finger joint from about 30 minutes to about 6 minutes. This means that the obstacle in observation time to clinical practice has been cleared.
