Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, researched into the collection and utilization of probe data are being done at a variety of places. However, due to high data transmission costs, actual use of probe cars has not progressed as expected. On the other hand, in Japan infrared beacons installed at roads by traffic administrators now number 42,000 nationwide. In May 2004, UTMS-Japan began a research into the use of infrared beacons to collect probe information at low cost. This research is investigating two points : (1) promotion of collection of probe information through cooperation between government and private organizations, (2) development of data compression technology for collection of probe data by infrared beacons. In this paper, we will introduce an algorithm for compressing spatio-temporal trajectory of probe data.
