Study of professional extension of Intra coding in AVC∣H.264

Abstract(in English) The standardization on professional extensions of AVC∣H.264 had started since May 2003 in JVT (Joint Video Team). There were a lot of requirements from industry to extend AVC, whose coding efficiency is twice as conventional standards, for professional equipments. In this extensions, AVC supports not only 4 : 2 : 0 8 bit video, but also supports 4 : 2 : 2, 4 : 4 : 4, 10 bit and 12 bit video. In this document, the method to extend AVC to support 4 : 2 : 2 and 4 : 4 : 4 video is proposed. Depending on the resolution of chroma, the block size of intra prediction and DC transform for chroma is adaptively changed to improve the coding efficiency. The performance of the proposed method was verified by experiments and up to 15% of coding gain was observed.
