Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is necessary to take into account the spectrum of light when rendering the effects of interference and dispersion because the optical phenomena greatly depend on the wavelength. Atmospheric phenomena such as rainbows and halos are caused by interference, diffraction and dispersion of light. Traditionally, rainbows are rendered by using geometric optics. The methods, however, cannot render visual variations of rainbows depending on the radius of water droplets and interference rainbows. The paper proposes a method for rendering rainbows taking into account both wave optics and spectrum distribution of light. The proposed method is able to render the visual variations of rainbows and interference rainbows. We also propose a method for compositing the rendered rainbow and photographs taking into account luminance of the rainbows.
