Abstract(in English) Dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) modules using Raman amplification need an automatic gain control (AGC) scheme. The number of channels input into a DCF module is suddenly changed in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. Especially in such systems, high-speed is required for the AGC scheme in order to adapt suddenly change. In this Letter, we propose a high-speed AGC scheme for DCF-Raman amplifiers. It takes tens of microseconds so that signals transmit DCF in the DCF-Raman amplifiers. To realize a high-speed AGC scheme, it is necessary to match timings in which output power and input power are monitored. We developed a high-speed digital AGC circuit with CPU to solve the problem, and realize a high-speed AGC scheme with adjusting monitoring timings on software.
