Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is known that molecular ions are produced by chemical reaction of Yb+ ions in excited states with residual gases. We develop an ion trap apparatus to investigate this phenomenon in detail. We measured the number of stored ions and the storage time by the RF resonance absorption method. The number of stored ions was estimated to be of the order of 10^5∿10^6 just after ion creation was stopped. We found that the storage time depended on the pressure of He buffer gas and had the maximum of 1.3×10^4s obtained at a He gas pressure of 5.3×10^<-5>Pa.
