Development of optical interface for GE-PON systems

Abstract(in English) The growth of Internet traffic has spurred the development of economical and high-speed optical subscriber network. We have developed the first optical transceiver for GE-PON ONUs/OLTs compliant with IEEE802.3ah Draft3.3, which are the key devices for optical communication systems. The bidirectional optical modules for ONU integrated with optical transmitter, receiver and WDM filter have been developed in order to meet the strong requirement of downsizing and price-reduction. In the burst-mode receiver for OUT, low-noise preamplifier IC with a new continuous AGC scheme to regenerate any wave forms of optical burst signals and limiting amplifier IC with automatic threshold control function have been developed. In consequence, we confirmed that over 4km transmission with a split ratio of 1:64 or over 12.5km transmission with a split ratio of 1:32 is achievable by application of the newly developed optical interface for GE-PON systems.
