Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Discrete Raman amplifier is effective for various wavelength signals, especially for those in access network systems. However, in order to apply it to access systems, it is necessary for the amplifier to support both digital and analog signal. In addition, properties such as wide dynamic range and stable output for burst signals are demanded. From this point of view, transmission experiments are carried out about the Raman amplifier designed for use in 1.3-μm wavelength region. Pump light is generated using a 1.12-μm fiber laser and a Raman laser technique. Obtained gain of up to 15 dB, noise figure of less than 6 dB, and flat frequency response over 12 GHz are enough properties for the access system. Bit error rate performance at 10-Gbit/s and carrier to noise ratio properties are found to be satisfactory through measurement using a 10-km optical fiber installed outside. Concerning the stability of the amplifier, output fluctuation is confirmed to be less than 1 dB for 14-days measurement. Applicability of the amplifier to burst signals is verified by measuring transient response after amplifier for milli-second pulse signals.
