Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Among the applied fields of Virtual Reality technology, communication area is very important. For better communication, at least, environment must be shared under optimum conditions. We have therefore introduced "Tel-E-Merge" system as a new communication method for such a situation, i.e., "I wish you were here". "Tel-E-Merge" means both of "tele-emerge" and "tele-merge". By using this system, we can invite "tele-visitor" to our own place via virtual environment. The system will make it possible to merge a remotely located person into a place that one is currently in. We are focusing on the sense of locomotion, in particular, the sense one feels while walking in a large space. As one of the implementations of the system, we have developed locomotion interfaces. In this paper, we describe our locomotion interfaces and introduce some application examples using the interfaces.
