Study on long-distance 40 Gbit/s transmission using Raman amplification

Abstract(in English) The effectiveness of Aeff enlarged positive dispersion fiber (EE-PDF) and hybrid amplification configuration using EDFA and Raman amplifier was investigated for long-distance 40 Gbit/s-based WDM transmission. By adding the optimum Raman amplification, almost the same transmission performance was obtained with a doubled repeater spacing in 16 x 40 Gbit/s, 2000 km WDM transmission. It was also confirmed that ultra-low-nonlinear transmission line using the hybrid amplification repeater and ultra-large Aeff fibers was effective to increase the transmission distance in 40 Gbit/s-based transmission.
