Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Transmission performance degradation by cross-phase modulation (XPM) is one of the most important problems in wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) systems using intensity-modulation direct-detection format. To alleviate the degradation above, modulation format such as differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) has been investigated. However, even in DPSK systems, system performance is degraded by the generation of intensity noise by bandwidth limiting effect of a wavelength demultiplexer in a receiver, and also by the XPM induced by signal intensity noise. In this paper we show by computer simulation that the use of an optical limiter in an receiver and an optical repeater is effective for the transmission performance improvement in DPSK WDM systems.
