Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Two types of memory effects; that is, "weak" and "strong" ones are observed in a liquid crystal cell with a rubbingless polymer alignment film. Their time dependence is investigated by using PVA and PI films in various temperatures. In case of the PVA film, the initial molecular orientation which is produced by a liquid crystal injection process is stabilized for a few hours later at room temperature. The stabilizing speed of the PI film is much faster than that of the PVA film and the speed in both films tends to increase with increasing the temperature. On the contrary, the weak memory effects seem to disappear as the time passes.
