Wavelength control of long-period fiber gratings by tilting an amplitude mask

Abstract(in English) We propose a method to control the loss wavelength of a long-period grating by irradiating a fiber with a laser through a tilted amplitude mask. The amplitude mask with a grating period of 460 μm was tilted so as to obtain a vertical grating to the axis of the fiber. Transmission spectra and loss wavelengths were measured for tilt angles up to 45° with hydrogenated single-mode fiber. The measured results were compared with numerical simulation. It was shown that using only an amplitude mask it is possible to control the loss wavelength all over the range of 1.2-1.6μm. We also describe the low temperature properties.
