Abstract(in English) The high-definition video applications using MPEG-2 video coding technology are increasing, like BS digital broadcasting and terrestrial digital broadcasting services. These applications require MPEG-2 HDTV encoder systems and these encoders are required to be high-quaility, small and inexpensive. However, conventinal HDTV encoders are large and expensive. Thus we have been developed an HDTV encoder system based on spatially parallel encoding approach. This HDTV encoder is constructed by multiple unit encoders, which is enhanced MPEG-2 SDTV encoding LSIs. By this approach, this HDTV encoder system realized very small size, low power consumption and high quality coding.
