Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the auditory sensory memory process, the incoming speech signal is integrated temporally. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the period and configuration of auditory temporal sequence to be stored and the magnitude of the mismatch negativity (MMN), which is a component related to the sensory memory system. First, the relationship between the period of stored temporal sequence and MMN amplitude was observed by using series of two tone stimuli. It was shown that the width of the temporal window of integration was about 300 - 400ms on ignored condition, whereas this period could be extended in the presence of attention. Next, the relationship between the MMN amplitude and the number of tones in the single stimulus was evaluated. It was shown that the MMN amplitude was decreased when the number of tones in a stimulus was increased. This result might be related to the grouping process on auditory processing system.
