Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this article, an attempt is made to verify the level of information literacy acquired from current junior high school texts as compared to that that may be acquired from the technical and home economics textbooks, prepared according to the new curriculum guidelines of the Ministry of Science and Education, that deal with the theme of information and computers and which will be introduced during the next academic year. The literacy levels for the two cases are then compared. The new junior high school texts contain more information regarding recent developments in information technology, information society, and information ethics, and so forth than the current texts. Therefore, it can be concluded that, with the new textbooks, a thorough knowledge and adequate skills for managing data and information utilizing computers may be acquired.
