Abstract(in English) We have developed a prototype control plane software, based on Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching, for an optical network. In this paper, we present the path setup time evaluated with the developed control plane software. A control plane of an optical network can be realized in two architectures : 1) centralized control and 2) distributed control. In general, the centralized control has advantages of easy migration from existing network management systems and better resource utilization efficiency. On the other hand, the distributed control is superior in terms of fault tolerance and scalability. As a base data for investigating the scalability, we have evaluated path setup time in a optical network by using the prototype control plane software. A 2,160 km optical path, which spans 18 hops, can be setup in 280 msec, in a 100-node square grid network with control channels whose effective transmission rate is 512 kb/s.
