Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We report the first thermotropic cholesteric liquid crystal phase of a rigid rodlike 7_3-helical poly(n-decyl-(S)-2-methylbutylsilane) with M_w=11, 100 and M_w/M_n=1.19. Selective circular dichroism (CD) reflection bands in the range from 500 to 1500 nm and Grandjean texture optical image directly proved the cholesteric phase in the range 70 to 170℃. The present result is the first clear evidence proving a well-defined cholesteric mesophase structure based on a polysilane. These properties are promising in the use of wavelength-tunable, circular polarized light filter.
