Abstract(in English) | A poly(p-phenylene vinylene), derivative substituted with a long side chain containing azobenzene unit, poly(2-methoxy, 5-(4-phenylazophenyl-4'-(1, 10-dioxydecane))-p-phenylene vinylene), (MPA-10-PPV), has been newly synthsized and its optical properties have been studied. Photochromism due to cis-trans isomerization of azobenzene was confirmed in this new type of conducting polymer. Optical anisotropy such as dichroism has been induced upon irradiation of polarized light, which is discussed in terms of reorientation of both azobenzene moiety and polymer main chain. The electroluminescent(EL)device has been fabricated using this MPA-10-PPV and its basically phisycal properties have been investigated. |
