Light Extinction Characteristics of Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal Films

Abstract(in English) Dependences of turbidity on film thickness in polymer dispersed liquid crystal(PDLC)films are measured for a droplet-type, which liquid crystal(LC)droplets were dispersed in polymer matrix, and a network-type, which contains a three-dimensional polymer network in LC. In the droplet-type films, the characteristics of light extinction at the interfaces with substrate differ from it at the middle layer. The turbidity in the interfaces is lager than middle layer and greatly dependent on LC droplet size. In other side, in the network-type films, the turbidity is bigger than the droplet-type. The dependence of extinction on the wavelength is much small. The relationship between the film structure and scattering properties was investigated experimentally.
