Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Extraction of smoke or steam region by optical flow from indoor scene is discussed as a segmentation step for environment monitoring by sensor fusion with gas sensors. Initially, flow vectors are calculated by spatiotemporal gradient method, and the image is divided into small rectangle sub areas. Flow intensity as the sum of flow strength and flow histogram are calculated in each area. Candidate regions are extracted by flow intensity and consistency of adjacent areas is checked by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test of those histograms. Both of smoke and steam regions were extracted by this method from scenes with complex background pattern.
