Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We report on the formation of refractive grating in azo-polymer waveguide by photobleaching. The grating was formed into azo-polymer core layer by interference of 532 nm wavelength laser lights. We attained a maximum diffraction efficiency of 35 %. From IR spectroscopy, it was confirmed that the interference causes scission of azo-bond. The modulation depth, less than 30 nm, of relief structure observed by AFM was very small. So, the effect of relief structure on the diffraction efficiency is negligible. From these results, we confirmed that the grating obtained here was mainly caused by photobleaching. This grating can be used as an input/output coupler. We observed that coupling efficiency of the grating is dependent on polarization direction of guiding beam. This is considered to be related to anisotropic refractive index change induced by photobleaching in vertical plane of film.
