Low-loss polymeric optical waveguides with thermal Stability

Abstract(in English) We have developed deuterated polysiloxane with high transparency and high thermal stability.This paper reports on the use of this polysiloxane to fabricate single-mode polymeric optical waveguides. Embedded waveguides were fabricated by conventional spin-coating, photolithography and reactive ion etching.Single-mode operation was achieved for wavelengths of 1.31 μm and 1.55 μm.The propagati on losses of the waveguides were measured by the cut-back method. The losses at 1.31 μm and 1.55 μm were less than 0.1 dB, cm and l ess than 0.5 dB/cm,respectively.The propagation losses at 1.31 μm and 1.55 μm remained unchanged after heating them at 120℃ for 10 hours.
