Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Principles of single electron tunneling (SET) phenomena are reviewed and possible application of SET to molecular devices are proposed.Single electron transistor composed of molecules would exhibit superior characteristics because of the self-assembly nature of molecules. This paper also describes the possibility of fabricating a nano scale switching devices based on the atom, molecule switching (ART:Atom Relay Transistor),which could realize a supercomputer within a 0.2 mm square of area and operate at around three orders of magnitude faster speed than semiconductor based one.
