Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Polysilanes, whose backbones consist of silicn atoms,is known to have one-dimensional delocaized electronic states. We have evaluated nonlinear optical susceptibilities of thin films of polysilanes by measurements of third-harmonic generation and electric-field induced second-harmonic generation.Comparing the results with the one-photon and two-photon absorption spectra,we found that one-dimensional excitons do exist with a series of quantum numbers and play essential roles in the nonlinear process in polysilanes.Novel features of one-dimensional excitons are discussed by analysis of the spectroscopic results in terms of the theoretical model. |
