Characteristics of optical elements fabricated from fluorinated polyimide waveguides

Abstract(in English) This paper reports on the characteristics of optical elements, such as bent waveguides and directional couplers, which were fabricated from fluorinated polyimide waveguides. The waveguides had a low optical loss of O.3 dB/cm at 1.3 μm and O.6 dB/cm at 1.55 μm, and had a low polarization-dependent loss of less than 0.1 dB/cm. The minimum curvature radius was less than 5 mm at a Δn of 1.0%. Directional couplers with a Δn of 0.3% had a maximum power coupling ratio of more than 97% and 96% for TE and TM polarizations, respectively. The 3 dB couplers had an excess loss of 0.3 dB and showed a thermal stability of the coupling ratio.
