An Algorithm for Image Analysis Based on Neural Net

Abstract(in English) This report proposes a Basis Function Network which is based on a feed forward neural net mechanism. The network is designd to be applied to one of image compression and coding. The network consists of three layers. In a hidden layer, known basis functions are located in 2 dimensional plain. They are linearly combined with link weights. An observed image data are approximated by using the network outputs which are calculated by using the above data and nonlinear functions. As some examples, harmonic functions and wavelet functions are applied as the above basis. In addition, this report shows the design method of small scale netword in which redundant links are automatically disconnected. Even if such small scale network is used to the approximation of the image, it is shown that its quality can be held high enough using sophisticated learning.
