Abstract(in English) The European Union has a plan to develop its own satellite navigation system, named'Galileo.' The definition phase of Galileo, in which function and performance outline of the system would be defined, is to be completed by the end of this year. The baseline of the system includes:(i)consisting of 30 MEOs;(ii)mainly using L-band downlink to users;and(iii)3~15 Mcps spectrum spread code for ranging. The report describes the outline of Galileo system, based on the information dawned up to the present. The computation result is also shown which displays Galileo satellite visibility from Japan using the most convincing candidate of the satellite constellation to be accepted to final design.
