Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Points and signals at stations are controlled by interlockings, and a rear-end collision is avoided by ATC(Automatic Train Control), which enables trains to stop before the sections in which the preceding train exists. Trains are protected by these two safety measures;equipment is designed in a failsafe manner, by which the system enters or remains in a safe state even in the case of system malfunction. This paper describes technologies adopted in railway signalling and train control, including a new approach to evaluations of safety measures and to new train control systems by radio.
