Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) National Space Development Agency of Japan has been studying a new small satellite launch vehicle, named the J-1 Upgrade Launch Vehicle, aiming at meeting demands for small satellites launches in a flexible and low-cost manner and being used as a test-bed for future space transportation technologies. The J-1 Upgrade Launch Vehicle is a liquid propellants used two-stage launch vehicle capable of launching one-ton satellite into a Sun-Synchronous Orbit with an altitude of 800km. Newly developed are a LOX/LNG propulsion second stage, a mechanism to relieve vibration loads applied on the satellites during launch, and an automated and simplified launch operations system. And introducing existing technologies in a well-balanced manner, a low-cost and short period of time development will be accomplished. Reported here is the development concept of J-1 Upgrade launch vehicle as a 'satellite-friendly' small launch vehicle.
